 President Asif Ali Zardari conferred the Nishan-i-Pakistan award on Prince Rahim Aga Khan in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development, prosperity, and welfare of Pakistan and its people. The prestigious civilian award was presented during a special investiture ceremony held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Friday. The event was attended by Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, federal ministers, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, parliamentarians, diplomats, and senior government officials. During the ceremony, a citation was read out highlighting Prince Rahim Aga Khan's extensive leadership roles within the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) over more than 25 years. His dedicated efforts have significantly improved the living standards of people in resource-constrained regions across Asia and Africa. Upholding the Aga Khan family's multigenerational legacy, Prince Rahim has made substantial contributions to the economic, health, educational, and cultural well-being of poor and marginalized communities.

Under Prince Rahim's leadership, the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED) has launched groundbreaking initiatives in Pakistan across various sectors, including commercial banking, microfinance, insurance, sustainable tourism, and renewable energy. These initiatives have facilitated access to financial services for nearly 50 million people in Pakistan. As the Founding Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network’s Climate and Environment Committee, Prince Rahim has led the establishment of environmental stewardship policies and best practices to address climate change issues. He has also been instrumental in providing generous support to the people of Pakistan following the devastating floods of 2022.

The ceremony also underscored the historical contributions of the Aga Khan family to the Muslim community in India, their role in the formation of the All India Muslim League, and their efforts towards the creation of Pakistan. The recognition of Prince Rahim Aga Khan with the Nishan-i-Pakistan award reflects his remarkable service and commitment to improving the lives of countless individuals and fostering sustainable development in Pakistan.
