The internet tracker Netblocks has reported a big problem with social media in Pakistan on Saturday. This happened during an online event organized by PTI. Netblocks said, "Confirmed: Live metrics show a big problem with social media in all of Pakistan, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube." This was at 7:12 pm. People in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad also said they had trouble using social media.
This also happened on January 7 when PTI had an online fundraising event. When asked, a spokesperson for the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said all social media networks were fine, and they didn't get any complaints.
Now, PTI wants the Supreme Court to do something about the internet and social media being stopped during their fundraising event. They said 240 million people couldn't use social media, and it caused money problems for the country.
Telecom companies are worried about the internet going down often "because of politics." On January 10, the interim Information Minister Murtaza Solangi said it's not political; it's just technical problems. He told reporters to ask the PTA for more details.
This also happened on December 17 during another online event by PTI.
