The military in Pakistan says they carried out strikes in Iran on Thursday morning, targeting hideouts used by terrorist groups, specifically the Baluchistan Liberation Army and Baluchistan Liberation Front. This happened less than 48 hours after Iran conducted air strikes in Pakistan on Tuesday.
Iranian state media reports at least nine people were killed in the Pakistani attack. The Iranian Foreign Ministry has summoned Pakistan's top diplomat in Tehran to explain the attacks. Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister has cut short his visit to the World Economic Forum in Davos and will return to the country today. China, Russia, Turkey, and the EU have urged both sides to avoid escalating the situation and to exercise maximum restraint.
