 E. Jean Carroll is suing former President Donald Trump for the second time in a defamation case. Carroll claims Trump defamed her by denying he raped her in a department store in the 1990s. Carroll's lawyer, Shawn Crowley, told the jury that Trump encouraged his followers to threaten her life. The judge, Lewis Kaplan, stated that it's already determined Trump sexually assaulted Carroll.

Crowley argued that Trump, as president, used his influence to attack and humiliate Carroll, even continuing defamatory remarks on social media during the trial. Carroll, who was previously awarded $5 million, seeks an additional $10 million in compensatory damages and more in punitive damages for Trump's 2019 statements.

Trump's lawyer, Alina Habba, claims the evidence will show Trump didn't harm Carroll's reputation. Despite the jury's earlier decision, Trump insists Carroll lied about the assault, making him vulnerable to further legal action.

During jury selection, Judge Kaplan informed jurors that the trial won't reconsider whether Trump assaulted Carroll, as it's already established. The previous jury ruled in May that Trump assaulted and defamed Carroll, awarding her $5 million. The current trial focuses on Trump's 2019 comments and could result in more damages if the jury rules against him.
