Introduction: 

The Aga Khan University (AKU), established in 1983 as Pakistan's first private international university, is dedicated to delivering education, research, and healthcare of international standards relevant to Pakistan and the region.

 The AKU-Institute for Educational Development, Pakistan (AKU-IED) has a long-standing partnership with the Department of School Education (DSE) GB to improve children's access to quality education, enhance education governance, and involve communities in schools in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

 

AKU-IED has been contracted by the DSE GB for the GB Education Fellows (EFs) project aimed at improving the quality of education in GB. A consortium including LUMS, KIU, and Knowledge Platform, led by AKU, has been awarded a grant by the GB Government to recruit and train 1200 Education Fellows for public sector educational institutions in GB.

 

We are inviting applications for Education Fellows who will be placed for nine (9) months in government educational institutions in GB. Applicants from last year should re-apply if still interested and available.

 

During their placement, Education Fellows will participate in an intensive professional development program organized by AKU and its partners as part of the project. They will also receive ongoing professional support to enable them to provide quality education in their schools and colleges.

 

Responsibilities:

The Education Fellow will work under the supervision of their headteachers/principals, district management, and district-based professional development teachers (associated with the project) to carry out the following responsibilities:

 

- Plan and execute instructional activities aligned with the curriculum, catering to students from diverse backgrounds and abilities to enhance their learning, especially their critical and creative thinking skills.

- Develop and effectively implement lesson plans to improve students’ learning outcomes.

- Integrate technology appropriately to promote gamification pedagogy.

- Demonstrate a solid command of the subject matter.

- Provide students with opportunities for hands-on and minds-on activities to foster intrinsic motivation for learning.

- Actively engage in ongoing professional development activities organized by the Consortium and through other means.

- Become part of the school/college and the wider community to work effectively with school leadership in achieving educational improvement goals.

Requirements:

 

General Education:

Preference will be given to candidates with 16 years of education in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, and Computer Science from an HEC-recognized university.

- Candidates with 14 years of education, including BSc, BA, and BCS, will be considered based on need and availability of posts in certain areas.

- Candidates with Intermediate qualification (12 years of education) will only be considered for marginalized/under-served areas in GB.

Special Education:

 Preference will be given to candidates with a 2nd class or Grade C Master’s degree/BS (Hons) in Special Education, Psychology, and Social Work/Sociology from a recognized university.

Candidates with a Master’s degree/BS (Hons) in subjects like Urdu, Islamiat, English, Pakistan Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Economics, and Education, but also holding a diploma or certificate in Special Education, will be considered based on need.

 

Technical and Skills Development:  

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, BCS/BSCS, Engineering, or BTech (Honors) in Civil Technology, Electrical Technology, or DAE plus 3 years of experience from a recognized university.

Selection Criteria:

The possibility of selection will be determined in two phases:

 

1. Academic qualifications, residence, percentage of marks in academic qualifications, experience, and professional qualifications will be considered for shortlisting.

2. Shortlisted candidates will undergo further screening, which may include a panel interview, a test, and a short teaching demonstration.
